I would pay good money to watch 78-year-old Neil Young try to tell the difference in a blinded A/B listening test

Yep. I know I'd have no chance at all of being able to do that, because I'm over 50.

So much more to music than refined sound quality. Lots of us fell in love with music & artists through the static of AM transistor radios. Neil was one of them.
-
Yes, and it's not as though his albums are always recorded with the highest fidelity possible. The sound quality from many of his albums from the 1960s and 1970s is not what I would call great, even for the time.

"you have to use an external DAC" True, but not specific to macs. Anyone who is doing serious music production should have high quality DAC's, and no mass market computer has them per standard.
-
I think Young's rant was in response to the stories about how Billie Eilish and her brother Phineas used a MacBook Pro, Logic Pro X, and budget studio equipment to record her album that won so many awards at
#TheGrammys2020. - Show replies

He's also completely and entirely wrong.
-
Is he implying that a dac somehow affects recording quality?
