What utter twaddle! Science is all about coming to a consensus about how a natural phenomenon works. What is a theory (e.g., of evolution, of relativity, etc.) but the best current scientific consensus about a natural phenomenon? 1/https://twitter.com/EcoSenseNow/status/1220759520932007937 …

    Patrick Moore @EcoSenseNow
Consensus is a word with no application in science. It is a social/political word. Nearly all discoveries are made by individuals. Galileo, Mendel, Darwin, Einstein all fought against a false consensus, sometimes until their death. “Climate Crisis” is a fake consensus. https://twitter.com/bbountybb/status/1220592662211891200 …

It’s also nonsense to claim nearly all scientific discoveries are made by individuals. Scientific discoveries/progress are based on previous observations and work, or, as Sir Isaac Newton himself said, “If I have seen further it is by standing on the sholders [sic] of Giants.” 2/

Stephen Hawking once said, "Each generation stands on the shoulders of those who have gone before them, just as I did as a young PhD student in Cambridge, inspired by the work of Isaac Newton, James Clerk Maxwell and Albert Einstein." 3/

The only people who claim that consensus has no role in science are people who have no idea how science actually works, usually cranks, quacks, and/or science deniers. 4/https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/hostility-towards-scientific-consensus-a-red-flag-identifying-a-crank-or-quack/ …

I suppose we have the late Michael Crichton (a climate science denier) to thanks for the idiotic denialist trope that “if it’s consensus it’s not science.” It was BS then, and it remains BS. 5/5

Somebody should maybe hand this guy a copy of Kuhn and tell him that’s the most basic start of understanding how this stuff works.
