In an ideal world where the game wasn't rigged, Mr. King might have a point. Not in this world. Diversity increases the number of quality stories, many previously untold, that can be told.https://twitter.com/StephenKing/status/1217058848403599361 …

If his point is that you have to evaluate all films for Oscar in a color-blind way, I can agree with that. But diversity must be considered when making those movies in the first place.

Diversity can actually INCREASE good storytelling. See: Hamilton.

It is highlighting, I think, the tension between The Good (morals/normative expectations) and The Beautiful (aesthetics/ personal preferences). Neither if these fully exist in a vacuum. A charitable read might be: ‘once produced, judge the work on its own merits or lack thereof.’
-
An uncharitable read might be: ‘many contextual factors relating to diversity are not presently in awareness or are discounted in favor of other factors.’ What both sideline is the (at least partially) constructed nature of The Good and The Beautiful as they show up today.

Well, I think the key here is "comes across to me".

Yes. It’s wildly condescending.

the problem is that on one side of the scale we have white-washing of everything... and on the other people who change the art, for their own benefits of fitting into "diverse" label... and everyone seems to forget about the original art. wtf?
