We do critique content, but antivaxxers often don’t distinguish between attacks on their claims and attacks on them personally. Why? Antivax is like religion or political ideology. It’s intimately intertwined with their sense of identity. Attack their claims, and you attack them.

I’ve thought about this quite a lot: when you attack something that somebody believes -to the point of religion- as being unfathomably untrue (which it is) they tend to see that as a attack on their intellect (also might be true). In my experience, it’s hard to separate the two.

It's more than that. They see it as an attack on themselves. When you say, "No, you're mistaken," they hear, "You're an idiot."
