I understand why politically this concession might have been perceived as necessary, but I don’t like it for this very reason. Antivaxxers aren’t entirely wrong when they point out how this gives only the affluent an out when it comes to avoiding school vaccine mandates.https://twitter.com/RMCarpiano/status/1216185714913636356 …

Re: NJ bill to 86 religious exemptions for vaccinations, I see private school concession as unfortunate but pragmatic politics. Yet I share concern here abt giving affluent an opt-out. One of many reasons for which I'll understand if this bill falls apart. https://newjerseyglobe.com/legislature/holley-whipping-against-vaccine-bill/ …

True but, tough. This is one time where the poorer people will actually benefit more and, at least, some of the lives to be saved will be.

I agree it's a concern. Note that it's also easier for the affluent to homeschool - generally, affluent will be better placed to avoid following a tighter mandate (or other public school changes they dislike). I don't like that, but I like kids getting sick even less. @RMCarpiano

I agree. Fact of life: As these bills/laws subject to politics, there will be trade-offs: status quo or something better-but-less-than-ideal. I wasn't happy w/how CA SB276 or WA's bill (MMR only) turned out, but one can't approach legislation in all or nothing way.

I assume private school students mingle with the general public outside of school. We all need to be vaccinated to protect each other and exempting private school students is asinine.

Message is kids of wealthy are ALWAYS going to regarded as being superior to other kids. Those wealthy California enclaves not vaccinating their kids wanted people to know their children were far to superior to contract disease. That's for poor people.
