Cancer isn't the number one cause of death in children. Trauma (either vehicular or due to violence) is. It's not even close.

Is that a function of having eradicated or learned to treat the conditions that used to kill kids, or simply a function of not protecting our kids well enough, I wonder.

Neither. Trauma has always been at the top. It’s a neglected disease - one that needs more funding to improve prevention and treatment.

It’s true. Trauma in adults and children, especially firearms trauma, is underfunded relative to its prevalence.
