Not just science. Other fields can become grotesque if people believe and act as if they are a-political. Can we say the 1936 Olympics
@Olympics? Who rejected every attemp to boycott the games. Who allowed Germany to break every rule on discrimination

We literally have laws banning study of ideological hot topics like gun control, and good luck studying abortion with govt funding. A whole division of NIH exist to satisfy the BS notion of complementary medicine, and after billions wasted found nothing new.

That’s before we even get into earmarks and pork. No, science is inherently political because it can’t be done for free and govt holds the purse strings. Now that doesn’t mean govt can just get science to say whatever it wants, but it does get to define the priorities.

This 1931 quote by Stalin's one-time minister and chess organizer Krylenko seems to be weirdly relevant. He was talking about chess specifically, but it can easily be extrapolated to any cultural work, science included.pic.twitter.com/wK0DjOONhK

This is conflating politics and ideology, a common mistake. Science is political because politicians pay for it - even our independent scientific enterprise has its priorities set by politicians. It is not required to produce ideologic results however, the sin of Lysenkoism.
