It's not just antivaxxers who view their children as extensions of themselves or their property. Far too many parents think "parental rights" are absolute and that the state should not be able to intervene when they choose quackery over medicine for life-threatening illnesses. 1/ https://t.co/VK4uVZsxTZ

Thanks David, in 2018 in
@PLOSBiology,@ArthurCaplan and I wrote about the fundamental rights of children, including their right to be protected against serious infectious diseases. This is relevant to pending legislation in NJ coming up in January.https://journals.plos.org/plosbiology/article?id=10.1371/journal.pbio.3000010 … -
And vaccine injuries/deaths? Do kids have a "fundamental right" to be spared those? Neither you, Arthur Caplan, nor anyone on planet can say ahead of time if particular child will be more harmed by accepting or declining a vaccine product, therefore your assertion is specious.

It can also be utterly oppressive - Fundamentalist Christians parents who don’t let their adult children get a college education because they’ve set out the path their kids must follow (especially daughters). It’s really depressing.

These posts are examples of why we need to have well funded, fully-staffed, strongly supported Child Protective Services in every state vigorously enforcing comprehensive laws to protect children.
