Cars have a vital function that does not involve killing: transportation. As such, they are vital to the functioning of a modern, technological society. In contrast, guns are designed for one purpose: To kill. Sure people use them for targets, but their purpose is to kill.https://twitter.com/TFeel2020/status/1210938644934123521 …

I hate to burst your bubble, but the number of fatalities related to guns is similar to those caused by motor vehicles, and nobody is suggesting we limit or ban cars. I'm all for responsible ownership of any potentially deadly tool, whatever their intended purpose is.

What an odd objection. Cars need more licensing and oversight than guns. You have to be trained to drive them and know the rules of the road. Guns maybe you pass a background check but no one is required to learn how to use them/store them. Lol

Moreover, we strive to make driving safer by way of policy. Licensure, traffic laws, manufacturing requirements, improved technology. Hemenway, for example, has written extensively on ways a similar public health mode could be applied to guns to make us safer.

Exactly, imagine if people started complaining about the government 'taking our cars" when seat belts and air bags were mandated.

They also provide food for those who hunt rather than buy meat from factory farms, and protect from others who would seek to do harm. If I could go back in time and prevent the invention of the gun, I would. The world would have been a much better place without them.

Pretty telling when people make the argument about cars being as deadly as guns, and consider cars a “deadly tool” in effort to make (false) equivalencies. I remember a place called Charlottesville, VA...

How about all those deranged, angry white men who ultimately became domestic terrorists: they were surely waiting to stockpile large stores of pickup trucks with huge frontal impact areas, and had crazy “lone driver” fetishism articulated on random chat rooms, didn’t they? 🧐

I agree. There is also safety in car design: ABS, ESC, seat belts, air bags, and so on. There are speed limits, licenses that can be revoked, roads are designed for safety, red lights, stop signs. And on and on and on.

Why is this hard for people to understand, basic reasoning. It’s amazing to watch the mental gymnastics of gun enthusiasts.

Doesn't your name get associated with the care plate you own too? Can that be said for any and every gun people buy in the US?
