Except it’s usually not the antivaxxers’ body, is it? It’s their children’s bodies. (No one’s forcing adults to be vaccinated.) This is just another example of how antivaxxers view their children as property or an extension of themselves.https://twitter.com/MsheArt2_Mia/status/1209981538391203841 …

Parents are guardians or trustees of their children. They have decision making rights - up to a point. Laws forbidding child labor and requiring that children be educated reflect the fact that parental rights are not absolute.

I agree that children are separate beings, but disagree that parental rights are a privilege to be granted by the State, and contingent upon following the State's rules for child rearing

So you’d be OK with parents not giving their child with type 1 diabetes insulin or treating their child with a treatable cancer with homeopathic quackery instead of chemo? You’d be fine letting these children die in the name of “parental rights.”

In the case of abuse or medical neglect, society has an obligation to step in and correct that. Consider this: If parents are treating their child with type 1 diabetes with prayer instead of insulin, are their “rights” absolute? If yes, tough luck for the child, who will die.

No, in such a case, the state has not only the right, but the obligation, to step in and see that the child gets proper medical care. Ditto in the case of a child with cancer whose parents are treating him with homeopathy instead of science-based oncology care.

Yes! They never get this!!! Children are not your property and viewing them as such is a red flag in child protection cirteria in some countries.
