So I went to see #TheRiseOfSkywalker earlier tonight. I'm not really good at doing spoiler-free reviews; so I'm not going to say a heck of a lot. 1/

I did like the movie. I've seen the complaints about its being too much fan service and too eager to retcon the less popular happenings in #TheLastJedi. I can see that, but I don't think it was as big of a problem as some critics made it out to be. 2/

That's not to say that it wasn't a problem. There were things in the movie that looked as though they were there solely to make the hardcore fans outraged over #TheLastJedi like #TheRiseOfSkywalker. 3/

I will say that I guessed most of the major revelations and plot twists before they happened. They were fairly well telegraphed. The action sequences were quite good, though. J.J. Abrams generally doesn't stretch them out so long that they become numbing, unlike Michael Bay. 4/

I'll also say that the final confrontation in #TheRiseOfSkywalker was well done, with a nice building of tension and real sense that the heroes were in a hole so deep that it was hard to imagine how they could emerge victorious. 5/

OTOH, the final battle sequence in #TheRiseOfSkywalker also bears an uncanny resemblance in how it's structured to the final action sequence of #ReturnOfTheJedi: Luke/Rey in the throne room confronting Emperor Palpatine while the resistance fights a losing battle around them. 6/

That last Tweet was bordering on spoiler territory; so I'll stop now and move on to other things. 7/

Of course, like all #StarWars movies, time apparently had no meaning in #TheRiseOfSkywalker. 16 hours was a ridiculously short time for the heroes to stop the threat that they had learned of. 8/

It was also a little annoying to learn that Rey is not a "nobody" after all. I figured that Abrams would reverse that revelation from #TheLastJedi. 9/

I also must admit that seeing Carrie Fisher in the movie from outtakes and leftover footage from #TheLastJedi was a bit creepy, but if I didn't know that she'd died I probably wouldn't have felt that. 10/

Overall, I liked #TheRiseOfSkywalker. It's not the best #StarWars movie. (It's more like middle—maybe upper middle—of the pack.) However, it still managed to do what it had to do and deliver a (mostly) satisfying end to the Skywalker saga. 11/11
