As for the free market, we’ve actually explicitly eschewed putting the power of the market to work to lower costs. Medicare is forbidden from using its bargaining power to negotiate lower prices. Compared to the “socialist” NHS, which uses its volume power to to just that.

Like we do, taxes, savings on wasteful medical and drug expenditures (governments can negotiate as a block) and not spending quadrillion dollars on "defence"

I don’t see not covering health costs as saving money. Preventive care to all saves money, helping people get well or at least functioning saves money. Letting people lose their health or go broke over it doesn’t reduce deficit.
