I was marveling at the tidal wave of stupid in my timeline for the last week when I realized I had been attacked by InfoWars, Natural News (and wasn't THAT a rabbit hole of cray?), antivaxxers of all stripes, Sean Davis, and quoted in Blockhead Bongdildo's lawsuit. I'm SPENT.

Three years ago, Mike Adams (of Natural News) launched a prolonged attack on me, article after article accusing me of nonexistent conflicts of interest, falsely linking me (and my cancer center) to an oncologist who bilked Medicare out of tens of billions of dollars, etc.

Overall, there ended up being something like 40 posts in about two months libeling the hell out of me, filing false reports to the local FBI, insinuating that I was a pedophile, all work just enough plausible deniability to make a libel suit very difficult.

My cancer center’s legal department had to get involved, as did our media relations people. It was a huge headache. Ultimately, I weathered the storm and came out stronger, but damage was done.

For one thing, my Google reputation was destroyed for a long time. It’s only started to recover this year, as Google tweaked its algorithm to deprioritize quacks and conspiracy theorists.

One other thing. Antivaxxers have been flooding doctor review sites like
@vitals with fake one-star reviews of me. You can always identify the fake reviews by their mention of arrogance and dismissiveness.pic.twitter.com/vqLeSSVBlQ

The one by "Shelia Cooper" is a particularly obvious fake. She's referring to Dr. Farid Fata, the oncologist convicted of bilking Medicare out of tens of millions of dollars.

Dr. Fata never had admitting privileges, nor was he ever on staff at my cancer center. He did, however, have an office in the same building where my cancer center had a satellite clinic years ago, which has led quacks to claim he was one of our docs. He most definitely was not.

I remember that war! A bunch of us on the pro-vaccine, pro-science side got involved trying to counter it, but it was difficult when it was maybe 20-30 of us :/
