Antivaxxers: "It's because they're seeing doctors! They need vitamin A and D!" Quoth reality: The kids that are dying are the ones that have been treated by alternative health quacks, and their condition was critical by the time they got to the hospital....

So... why is it that so many are dying of measles in Samoa but no one died of the same in New York?

We began vaccination for measles in 1975. In 1974 a classmate of mine died of measles. We had good hygiene, being an industrialised country with good infrastructrure including health care, and good nutrition, complete with free school meals.

It can be treated with skittles. But that doesn’t mean it’s effectively treated. Vitamin A supplementation only has an effect if you’re vitamin A deficient.

Over 60 have died, most young children. Hawaii has sent doctors to go door to door providing vaccines, but in a lot of cases they are too late and the complications associated with measles are too much for the little patients to handle. The disinformation is amplified there :(

You do know vaccines aren’t a “cure” for measles right?

The ones that survive the disease are at risk of a multitude of horrific lifelong disabilities. My bro-in-law, born during Lebanese civil war. Parents couldn’t get him vaccinated; caught measles at 4yrs & was blinded by complications of the virus. I’ve seen this & worse as an RN.

My younger sister and I contracted the measles and chicken pocks before a vaccine was available. I had a fever so high that I was hallucinating. Get your kids vaccinated. Next we should discuss Polio vaccines.
