I was involved in a case where a child had retinoblastoma which needed enucleation. His dad refused as he wanted to try alternatives so the eye doc organised a court order to proceed with the op. Dad then fled to Thailand with his son, allowing the tumor to spread to the brain -
The child died. I think anybody with a shred of decency would agree that living with one eye is a lot better than dying before your second birthday with two...

Wrong, I am filled with self doubt all the time, the practice of medicine ("practice" here doesn't mean what you think it means) is constantly changing and good doctors should be constantly acquiring new knowledge to improve their practice.
