I did my surgery residency at this hospital. It disappoints the hell out of me to see my surgical alma mater promoting quackery. I might have forgiven saying acupuncture works for pain (it doesn’t), but acupuncture does NOT prevent or treat colds and the flu. I’m so ashamed.

Whoa. Acupuncture is not quackery. Your arrogance on this disappoints. Please review Integrative Oncology literature, at the very least.

Acupuncture is a prescientific mystical nonsense that has no effects greater than placebo. It’s also not ancient. Acupuncture in its current form has only existed since the 1930s or so. Before that, acupuncture needles were large and lancet-like.

The thin filiform needles used in acupuncture were introduced by a Chinese pediatrician named Cheng Dan’an in the early 1930s, who replaced the previously used coarse needles with the fine filiform needles in use today.https://respectfulinsolence.com/2019/08/01/acupuncture-angina/ …

There popularization of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine in the West began under Chairman Mao Zedong. That entire history has been retconned.https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/retconning-traditional-chinese-medicine …
