Jesus. I mean, in theory a good enough thing securing the baby to a human and securing the human with a seatbelt could probably work, but just the neck snapping capacity alone of this terrifies me.

I was sort of car seat noncompliant with my son for 3 months.... When he was too tall to use a booster seat safely and too young to not use one under the state law at that time. The state law later included an exception for just such an occasion...

The VAST majority of car accident deaths occurred AFTER the introduction of the car seat in the 60s. Only a small percent of those deaths occurred PRIOR to its introduction, but BIG CAR SEAT just hand-waves those numbers away and marches our kids into the ovens.
