I took typing at the all boys Catholic school I attended in the late 1970s. There was only one electric typewriter (the rest were ancient and nonelectric), and we took turns using it. You're forgetting I'm not GenY or a Millenial. I won a typewriter at my senior graduation party. Granted, it had a memory function... but it wasn't a computer. And the computers that were around all had dot matrix printers.
