The reason Medicare is losing money is because it only covers the sickest people, the elderly. Costs would be much lower if younger, healthier people were included. Also, a single system would allow a single set of drug prices, which is why every other country’s costs are lower.

Because people fear change/uncertainty. It should be a gradual changeover. For example, Medicare eligibility age is lowered to 55, then 45 etc...meanwhile, you can hold onto your current plan as long as it makes sense. It's a much easier sell. And easier to execute.

The French health insurance system is hybrid public/private. However, the government also has control systems at all levels of care and reimbursement. The insurer has no say in the care you receive and only serves as a reimbursement conduit.

But yes, I am also agnostic in that regard. It all depends on how you set it up.

I’m just an average user. the Australian healthcare system is a pragmatic hybrid. It works better than the US. Richer people get good coverage but everyone is covered. It is not a big political issue now that’s a big plus

Something about private insurance keeps fees high- Pharma and medical fees. I think that’s why govt takeover is preferable. But wish she would make that clear.
