Or the generations that don't have pop culture nicknames who created, profited from and defended slavery.

Exactly what "older tradition" are you talking about?

The Baby Boomer generation was the first one in which women en mass achieved financial independence via birth control, jobs, credit, etc. I'd say that made the world a better place.

But this is the most annoying Boomer habit of all - taking credit for things they didn't do. Gloria Steinem is a Silent, de Beauvoir born in 1908. Margaret Sanger is the mother of birth control. OCP was invented in 1951. They benefitted from the post WWII order of the greatest.

Next they will claim they invented civil rights. MLK was not a Boomer. The freedom riders were all silents - the oldest boomer wasn't even out of high school by 1960, and couldn't even vote in time for Civil Rights act of 1964.

Every time they go into these examples they are describing rights they got to enjoy due to the hard work of those that came before them. And almost all are examples of benefits they have failed, or failing, to extend to following generations.

This is so utterly stupid I can't believe it - the idea that any one "generation" has traits like stealing credit. I cannot believe you are serious about this inanity.

And have you yet explained how the slavery-holding generations demonstrated the "older tradition" of making the world better? Your argument is so manifestly bad I can't believe you are ready to stand by it.

I don't think that idea - you know, the one literally described as "The American Dream" - is something that is unique to me, but I do think it is a traditional ideal of our country, at least in the last century when it was described.

But I do enjoy that when you correct boomers on the actual order of events in history, and distinguish between what they *enjoyed* versus what they *accomplished* they become sputtering mad. The best they can do is "but Obama" who passed Bob Dole's healthcare plan.

As an aside: TBH, I’m willing to give Obama a pass on that score. He did what was politically possible on health care while simultaneously dealing with the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

Oh it was a real accomplishment. I was suggesting that Gen X adopt Obama from the generation that calls him Kenyan, right up until he started complaining about cancel culture. And then I mourned, for he is a boomer.
