I take it as a challenge to find placebo controlled RCTs in the historical literature. I find more and more everytime I look.

Yes I know it’s the gold standard. But (I know you know this) it is not always ethical to do double blind studies. To me, that demand can sometimes be further proof of lack of scientific literacy. It’s great when those studies exist bc you can point to them. But there are good —

It is ethical to do double-blind placebo-controlled trials for totally new vaccines. It's not ethical to do placebo-controlled trial for new vaccines against diseases we already vaccinate against, but it is ethical to test the new become versus existing vaccines for that disease.
