Not everyone critiquing alternative medicine is "dunking." It's the tenets of alternative medicine that fuel harmful movements, like those who oppose giving their newborns vitamin K shots. There's a lot of complexity here, and this argument is pretty reductionist. https://twitter.com/VPrasadMDMPH/status/1188964782184919042 …

Also just because it's easy doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. Dunking on antivaxx ideology has led to a situation where 80% of Californians support mandatory vaccination

Dunking on antivax is anything but easy. Its pseudoscience and conspiracy theories are protea, and it takes a lot of work to understand them well enough to counter them effectively.

I didn't mean to imply it's all easy but I think lazy dunks on the ideology that assume antivaxxers are wrong on the science can be effective political messaging -- not to the antivaxxers but to the public as a whole

The problem is the vaccine hesitant (i.e. not "hardcore" antivaxxers) often have some trigger or phobia that the antivaxxers are relying upon. Fear of the rich, fear of the medical establishment, fear of science, fear of big government.. Science doesn't fix those phobias.

No one is trying to sway hardcore AV.

Some are, but they're wasting their time. They're probably the ones patting themselves on the back for dunking.

Pretty much. Hardcore antivaxers are basically unpersuadable barring a "road to Damascus" moment. They need to be countered and deplatformed, too minimize their ability to create more vaccine-averse parents.
