You're conflating things here. Patients go bankrupt from expensive cancer treatment, whether it's based on strong or weak evidence, because they don't have adequate heal;th insurance, which is a societal problem in the only industrialized country w/o universal health insurance.

Moreover, countering pharma you can develop a very nice academic career, as our friend has., thus having the best of both worlds, doing good for society and for oneself. Not so countering alternative medicine.

Indeed, given the infiltration of quackery into medicine in the form of "integrative medicine," it's far easier to get a decent academic career going involving promoting quackery than involving combatting it.

As patients we are always asking4more clinicians, researchers, experts 2 counter quackery and misinfo in the forums that patients seek info. However, when patients see these experts being legally threatened & attempts to ruin their careers as a result, we feel guilty/responsible
