Seatbelts can also cause injury. It’s a risk/benefit balance there too.

In conditions in which seatbelts would be likely to cause injury they are still protecting the driver/passenger from worse injury.Outside of a rapid deceleration or crash scenario, your more likely to injure yourself by wacking your head with the sun visor than from seatbelts.

Also, airbags do not mean you don't still need seat belts. They go together. ( former first responder here, I've seen the difference.)

I remember calculating for the antivaxxers, that even if we took their figures for vaccine-injuries, refusing vaccines is statistically equivalent to refusing to drive without downing a bottle of wine, because of effect it could have to prevent heart attack at the wheel.
