Twitter doc calls out other twitter docs for debunking pseudoscience on SoMe bc he thinks it's a self-serving waste of time. Doesn't realize that measles is literally laughing at him. https://t.co/FI0CAXc8Zg

I find this whole spat puzzling. Why can’t we do both? I perceive that pseudoscience debunkers on Twitter are just as critical of poor/harmful medical interventions

100% agree. I tweet about unnecessarily expensive neuro treatments (looking at you Mallinckrodt), public health concerns (vaping) and I criticize snakeoil. His inability to see anything outside his own perspective is just ridiculous.

I think he has a grant to do what he does. That’s fine. But he seems to essentially to be telling the rest of us how to spend our free time. It’s as if he said “don’t go to the gym, criticize mainstream medicine like me.” Of course we do that already. I could be wrong.

It was bizarre to watch the whole thing evolve. He started with a point, then decided to make it about popularity/twitter followers, and obtusely acting like someone can't confront bad medicine and pseudoscience at the same time. Or maybe he's just a contrarian.

And there are reasonable points to be made. Do we really need another person debunking homeopathy? Might some woo be amplified by debunking it? Do we give a free pass to mainstream medicine too often? But we can ask those and fight woo too.

Those are not unreasonable things to discuss. Unfortunately, he didn't appear to be interested in a serious discussion of these issues, which skeptics have been debating fire decades.

Indeed, perhaps what irritated me was his attitude that he knew better and that skeptics had never consider these issues (that he in his brilliance thought of right away) before, when I've been discussing these issues since he was in high school, maybe longer.

But...and this is my favorite thing to take away from all of this...he made straight A's in high school

So did I. So what? No one cares after you're admitted to college, just as no one cared about my 3.8 GPA after I entered medical school.

I know right? It really kills me that it's on his wikipedia page. Just the icing on the cake of this bizarre Twitter roller coaster ride
