I, too, find it puzzling. I don't discount the work of those who hold pharma to task and demand higher standards of evidence for conventional medical interventions. Quite the contrary! I applaud them. We should be natural allies! But for some reason we're not. 1/https://twitter.com/auscandoc/status/1189604527990702080 …

It's not just doctors like Dr. Prasad, though. A more prevalent (and also corrosive) form of that attitude is at play among many practicing doctors, academic and nonacademic. It's more akin to apathy. We call these docs "shruggies." 3/https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/a-shruggie-awakening/ …

Shruggies' attitude is basically to shrug their shoulders and ask, "Why bother? CAM is all obviously nonsense, and it probably doesn't do any harm." Yes, it's nonsense, but often not obviously so to many, and it does do harm. 4/

Unfortunately, none of this is new. This very attitude on the part of such doctors, be they shruggies or docs who think that docs who take on pharma are cool while those taking on quackery drool, has been a longstanding impediment to combatting pseudoscience in medicine. 5/5
