Evolution. Only an incompetent designs a nervous system with nerve roots coming out between discs and bony prominences that can compress them, causing excruciating pain and weakness.https://twitter.com/gunsnrosesgirl3/status/1180476850243608578 …

Yes, I know this from personal experience. I had a bad cervical radiculopathy earlier this year that endangered my career and required surgery to fix.

The word "alarming" doesn't seem sufficient to cover the untold story and potential implications there. I trust the outcome is sustainable as well as positive.

Surgery neck. When I was in the midst of my worst pain, I learned that cervical radiculopathy is a common affliction among surgeons.

If living things evolve characteristics more rather than less favorable to survival,y would the spinal nvs syst. evolve that way?Is it the least unfavorable outcome?(Disclosure - I had excruciating nerve pain from L5/S1 herniation complicated by conjoined nerve root req. surgery)

"Good enough" is more consistent with evolution than "ideal" is.

.@Mona_Albano and I joke that the Intelligent Designer subcontracted the design of humans to the lowest bidder while He (of course it's a He) worked on jellyfish.

My favorite nervous system "design" example is the laryngeal nerve and the path it takes around the aortic arch.
