Yes and no. Vaccine hesitant parents are often really nice people, just scared by antivax misinformation. Hard core antivaxers, the "thought leaders" of the antivax movement, are almost without exception shitty people, entitled and dismissive of any public good.https://twitter.com/SOlsonMichel/status/1180220661995687936 …

Anti-vaxxers aren't shitty people, they're just scared. They're afraid and don't like what they don't understand. Education and empathy are tools we can use to empower people to make the responsible decision to get their children vaccinated.

This is why I'm always careful to distinguish between the vaccine hesitant and antivaxers. Vaccine hesitant parents can be reached with respect, empathy, and information. Antivaxers are beyond reaching and just need to be opposed.

Up to now I've called myself a previous anti-vaxxer but I suppose I was just vaccine hesitant. I reckon I could have been reached earlier if doctors had made more of an effort with me.

I think very visible and influential antivaxxers can be opposed simply with stricter legislation and active science communication to reach their audience. I wouldn't say they're beyond reaching, but they're not the focus of our SciComm tactics.

Exposed... one the tools of antivaxers are to cast doubts on the motivations of doctors, government agencies, and Pharma firms. But the antivax propagandists have financial & political motivations that don't look good in the clear light of day. Tell that story!

I only hesitated on ONE vaccine. Varicella. The risks of death were equal for the shot & for the disease. I still wish for a longer study period. I was hoping for a natural immunity via infection. Didn't happen, so #Spuhura got a chicken pox jab about a year ago.

If someone had explained to you that while chicken pox may be a nuisance only for your child, it could be devastating for someone else’s fragile child, and that the vaccine is meant to prevent disease spread , would you have been more keen to get the vaccine?

When responding on here I try to think of other people who may read my reply, not just (sometimes hardly at all) about the person I'm replying to. There are a lot of people reading replies who won't ever post one themselves; those people may be more responsive

Reminder to have your doctor or nurse sign liability for the vaccine in case it causes injury or death because vaccine manufacturers are not liable.

Don't know your source on that one, but I'm an attorney and I assure you that is not true. But the idea of requiring anti-vaxers to have insurance in case their kids infect others is a good idea.
