Well, the GOP hasn't really ever not believed in propaganda. They're religious, for starters. And they've never exactly been pro science. Yes, it's gotten a lot worse but they've been on a slippery slope a long time

I think a relavant point though is that whatever one thought of their political agenda, they had to deliver functional initiatives to succeed. In the current climate the GOP doesn't even have to be concerned with the most rudimentary vestiges of true facts.
