Note how @MrMaitra sounds just like an antivaxer. Antivaxers try to dismiss vaccine science by comparing it to a religion. Here, in @FDRLST, we see him doing the same with climate science, but adding a hefty dose of misogyny added. Mr. Maitra is a very silly denialist.https://twitter.com/FDRLST/status/1177236386296078336 …

We're seeing sexualized dances, hallucinogens, worshiping nature, confessing sins in pagan animism, worshiping purified teen saints, all to promote a supposedly greater cause. http://fdrl.st/dx7

In case @MrMaitra doesn't believe me, here are a couple of examples. In one example, antivaxer Ginger Taylor even coined a term "Vaccinianity," which she defined as the worship of vaccination. 2/https://respectfulinsolence.com/2008/07/09/a-friendly-word-of-advice-from-orac/ …

Here, Liam Scheff also compared vaccination to religion and religious rituals. 3/https://respectfulinsolence.com/2017/12/01/quoth-the-antivaxer-vaccination-is-a-religion-quoth-orac-nice-projection-there/ …

Indeed, comparing vaccination to a religion in order to dismiss the science is a very common theme on antivaccine websites and in antivaccine rhetoric, complete with doctors as priests in white coats. 4/

In fact, it's a very common tactic of cranks who deny science (like @MrMaitra) to try to dismiss the established science they are denying by calling it a religion and mocking it. 5/

In fact, some particularly vile people do the same thing in pseudohistory. Yes, Holocaust deniers like to refer to "Holocaustianity," which they define as a religion created by the Jews for gentile consumption. (I don't link to Holocaust denier sites; so here's a screenshot.) 6/pic.twitter.com/abehGiIRVK

Whenever you see someone comparing well-established science to a religion in order to dismiss it as just another belief system rather than conclusions based on huge quantities of evidence, you're looking at a denialist who uses this trope because science isn't on his side. 7/7
