I think so, but the ACA itself only barely squeaked by, and since them the Republicans have been dedicated to destroying it. The problem with a public option is every 4 years you might have arsonists in charge of the orphanage. We need a system that can sustain despite sabotage.

I think certain elected officials are so stupid, venal and so anti-intellectual I wouldn’t put them in charge of a lemonade stand. So when we need to make a sustainable govt structure that serves the people, idiot-proofing/independence will needs to be part of the DNA.

The last I checked, some hope remains for the ACA public option narrowly available to states. If New York and California succeed in implementing, we could see the start of a movement that tips the balance.
