That's not even considering all the unactionable genetic variants associated with increased risk of disease you'd be likely to find and not be able to do anything about, or, worse, things you'd rather not know, such as that your father is a different man than you thought he was.

Agreed. I don't see the value of subjecting students to having their genomes sequenced. Completely unnecessary to the teaching of genomics and their implications for clinical practice. A huge violation of the privacy and agency of the students.

I don't want my genome sequenced because it is, at this point, worthless horseshit. I didn't have AI in my program to get my degree in Computer Science. It's a very overrated field of research and development. 3. I'm not putting ultrasound gunk near my $300 cell phone.

Ha! I hadn't even thought of that for #3.

Even bioinformaticists and genomic scientists don't yet know what to do with much of what is found when a genome is sequenced. It's a bit much to expect medical students and all MDs to have an idea what to do. Maybe in 10 or 20 years.

Why would I need to know how to sequence a genome I’m confused
-
We have very friendly colleagues in genetics who can help with that

If someone had asked me as an M1 or M2 to spend time (and all that $$$) assembling a genome sequence myself I would have lost my mind. Why does anyone think techy boondoggles like this are going to fix what’s wrong with meded?
-
Also we’re supposed to get an education in AI? To do what? All three of these proposals are, to quote Pushing Daisies, “the kind of idea that would make a stupid idea feel better about itself.”
