Being yelled at by patients when you’re ready to discharge after extensive work up is exhausting—got called a “stupid dumb good for nothing doctor” this week. Gah do you know how much we’ve sacrificed over the years to be able to take care of you??

Sometimes I'm the one who has to give them the bad news that they have cancer. Often I'm the one who has to tell them that they will need chemotherapy. Sometimes (but, thankfully, not as often), I'm the one who has to tell them they have metastatic disease.
