@gorskon Would it be relatively fair and accurate to say that a person with depression has a chemical imbalance in their brain which needs to brought back into balance by antidepressants and other therapies?

It's a gross oversimplification that (I believe) should be abandoned; it's far more complicated than that:https://www.health.harvard.edu/mind-and-mood/what-causes-depression …

Would
@davidlaz say the same thing to someone suffering from diabetes, migraines, or heart disease? eg Should I not carry an inhaler because it's weak/addictive of me to need pharma products to breathe? Or is it only treatment of#mentalhealth that he labels as "addictions?"Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

He says "This isn't about you" but then immediately says "This isn't about your addiction". What addiction? Oh, the addiction of people he isn't talking about.

Do you really know what he needs? You have not examined him. He discussed this with his specialist, who agreed and assisted him in tapering.

Jeez, god help the hospital nurses if I ever try to quit my daily 10mg of fluoxetine! I am definitely not an addict but why make everyone’s life miserable (including my own)? Benefit >>>> Risk

Maybe the term 'addict' was wrong. The message, however, seems to be lost. There is a high percentage of people who struggle with withdrawal when they decide to come off psychiatric drugs. They feel like they have to keep taking them because the withdrawal is so bad.

The term ‘addict’ is not wrong. It may be hurtful to those who need to believe in medicalized ‘depression’ that ‘needs medicine like diabeties needs insulin’. But we know what bullshit that is.

New government report out today, Mr Gorski. You shouldn't be stigmatising those trying to get off prescription drugs. Shame on you. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/prescribed-medicines-review-report …pic.twitter.com/L95Ar3V2q4
