Being yelled at by patients when you’re ready to discharge after extensive work up is exhausting—got called a “stupid dumb good for nothing doctor” this week. Gah do you know how much we’ve sacrificed over the years to be able to take care of you??

You think? Being a patient is exhausting, stressful, frustrating, emotionally overloading, etc, etc.

Also, many of my patients have breast cancer; so they're cancer patients. That leads me to try very hard not to take it personally.

In my training long ago, it was emphasized that sick patients are never @ there social best! Their focus will always be centered on their illness not their social skills. Universal precautions works for everything, if you don't expect good behavior you won't be disappointed.
