We are all unconsciously biased in favor of that which favors our interests. The key is being able to understand that, admit it, and always take it into account. Whenever I consider a medical policy, I always ask myself: Does it help patients? Are the interests of patients aligned with my interests in this issue?

That’s what I find most frustrating about the balance billing debate. A solution that favors docs isn’t patients over profits, it’s docs profits vs payers (ultimately employers more than insurers since insurers will just raise premiums).

That’s fine but acting high and mighty about it as if you’re fighting the good fight on behalf of patients is disingenuous.
