It got so bad for a while that, the list time I met with my cancer center director a few months ago, he joked that he hadn't gotten any complaints about me lately.

Of course, I'm now in a privileged position. I'm a professor in the latter half of my career. Universities usually don't do anything about these sorts of complaints because it's academic freedom and, yes, free speech.

However, if I were a young academic, these sorts of complaints could cause more of a problem. If I worked for a private employer rather than a state university, such complaints could lead to my employer telling me to shut up or be fired. That's why antivaxers do this.

Yes, I was still an assistant professor in 2005, the first time I got one of these complaints cc'ed to my chairman, cancer center director, and dean. I was terrified.

Please stop grouping all people into one. I have friends who have chosen not to vaccinate and violence is not how they “roll”. Haven’t we learned anything about lumping groups of people Toby, especially in these times?
