The placebo effect, by definition, is a result of all forms of intervention. It shouldn’t be taken into account as evidence for the efficacy of modalities (other than to control for it, of course). I think he meant that prior plausibility should be taken into account.

I disagree, I think it's useful when talking to people who don't share a naturalistic worldview to have clinical data, which is basically worldview neutral

You can also just plug your own or some other authorities' definition of plausibility in as well, if you like. They're basically saying "no useful data on X" which means that it's all down to plausibility unless we have more data
