It’s getting harder and harder to deny, it’s just not a very good paper, and its editors don’t know what they’re doing. They have failed to rise to the occasion. Democracy dies in darkness.https://twitter.com/jayrosen_nyu/status/1162477405757423616 …

It’s one of the best papers in the country, and I’m seeing people on both sides twist everything Baquet said. Please, don’t play into everyone having their own facts. The Times has flaws but it has been doing good work.

I disagree. Farenthold is doing good work. Horwitz is amazing on opioids. What is the NYT doing? The White Supremacist next door puff pieces. And the excuse “I was asleep and missed the headline on the front of the paper” is not acceptable.

I really respect your work, and I am not dismissive of your opinion. But lets talk data. What’s the comparable work at NYT to Farenthold? When has NYT managed to name and confront denialism for what it is? I don’t think as a paper they know how to confront propaganda.

So, first, your statement assumes that’s their whole purpose. That’s a mistake, and it’s part of a meme that is depriving us of common narratives. Which promotes denialism.

WaPo is an internet site with, like most large sites, a million articles to serve everyone’s confirmation bias. The Times is a paper. (WaPo is great, but also pushed conspiracy theories around Epstein recently.)

Well I think that temporarily deranged everybody. And this neck bones thing is horseshit. I treat people that have hung themselves frequently. Yes you break bones, including the hyoid. But the WaPo coverage was good too and confronted Trump on his conspiracy mongering.

I’m curious about this shade though, “an internet site” rather than a paper. Historically, WaPo has been the braver, more impressive paper. When NYT folded on the Pentagon papers, WaPo published. WaPo brought down Nixon. Nyt? I still can’t get over Judy Miller.

Their lack of skepticism, their failure to resist manipulation by powerful forces has gotten us into wars. I think they are great for the same reason Harvard is great - they attract great people. But they have the same flaw too - they are manipulated by the rich and powerful.

And a recent example of NYT spreading disinfo check out this turd of an article. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/01/us/portland-protests-mayor-cruz.html …

Yeah, that was a particularly bad one.
