I’m an fMRI RESEARCHER. Do you have ANY METAL in your body that CAN’T BE REMOVED and are you okay with CONFINED SPACES? If so, are you FREE for a fun little EXPERIMENT tomorrow? That would be NICE. https://twitter.com/LadyOcciput/status/1160282940368199680 …

I could never be a subject in one of your experiments. The one and only time I had an MRI done, I learned that I'm claustrophobic enough that it took two tries to get it done, the second with pre-procedure Ativan. It wasn't even that long of a scan either, just cervical spine.🤷‍♂️

You might find going to sleep helpful

Yeah, but going to sleep is kind of impossible when your anxiety and discomfort are as high as they were when I was in the tube that first time.

I had the same issue at the dentist and learned to do it as a kind of self hypnosis. I am an anaesthesiologist and went to a talk on hypnosis ina very sceptical state, but thought it might be helpful under some circumstances. I think it can be useful.

Also virtually all fMRI tasks require you to be conscious, so falling asleep is at least frowned upon.

Also there are studies suggesting children will sleep to escape pain. If you want references it will take me a bit of time
