I’m an fMRI RESEARCHER. Do you have ANY METAL in your body that CAN’T BE REMOVED and are you okay with CONFINED SPACES? If so, are you FREE for a fun little EXPERIMENT tomorrow? That would be NICE. https://twitter.com/LadyOcciput/status/1160282940368199680 …

It’s just a super confined space — I’ve seen it happen before that someone was not claustrophobic in any other context, but they couldn’t bring themselves to be in the scanner for even 5 minutes.

That was me the first attempt. I told them to get me out of the tube within five minutes. What helped the second time (besides the Ativan) was that the tech actually talked to me during the test and told me in advance how long each sequence would take.

I did a 20 minute shoulder MRI and about lost my shit. Got through it but it was close.

I fell asleep in the mri

You might find going to sleep helpful
-
Yeah, but going to sleep is kind of impossible when your anxiety and discomfort are as high as they were when I was in the tube that first time.

The claustrophobia is horrible. I had to have my husband come in the room and maintain contact with my leg during my entire MRI scan. I was pregnant and going through a head & neck cancer diagnosis and they couldn't sedate me. Thank goodness he is metal-free

It is, and I was genuinely surprised to find out that I was claustrophobic enough that an MRI freaked me out.
