Also, as @MarkHoofnagle will tell you, the definition of what constitutes a medical error matters—a lot. Most complications, whether they lead to death or not, are not due to error, nor are most potentially preventable due to error.

The authority of “Hopkins” is something. Hey, I’ve been at Hopkins too, also Maryland Penn and Wash U. It’s not magic. There is one dude there who got a paper published. It doesn’t bear the weight of everyone there. I’m betting, not most of the docs. The literature has moved on.

I was responding to name dropping of Hopkins and pointing out our backgrounds at these institutions are shared. Those correcting and providing critique have equivalent credentials. It was a false appeal to authority and we can play the same bogus game.
