That’s not remotely an apology. That’s simply stroking his own, enormous ego. “If you can’t handle the truth, I’m sorry” isn’t an apology.

He is good at those after not understanding why tracing a tattoo on someone might be...wrong

He's pretty much doing a bang up job of destroying his own reputation right now and reinforcing the stereotype of scientists being unemotional robots with an ego problem.

Yeah, not going back; stopped following him for this latest only because it was the latest of many... and the fun or useful Tweets of his had become too few to make his crappy ones worth the effort.

Yeah, I’m sorry YOU felt this way after my tweet is not an apology.

-
Agreed. That was the epitome of "it's not me it's you" apology.

I admit full ignorance here. Why is such a big issue other than it being an irrelevant comparison of facts? I see a lot of replies about rationality versus emotionality, is it even about that? Seems too simplistic, yet I can't figure it out otherwise...

His “notpology” had a very post hoc feel to it, i.e., he came up w/ rationalizations/justifications for the tweet that—almost certainly—hadn’t occurred to him when he first composed it. Not very convincing. An aside: data (i.e., raw numbers) aren’t very salient w/o full context.

I was looking through the replies on Facebook, and while many were reacting similar to you, many others were supporting him, most of whom were also criticizing emotions, which was disheartening.
-
Oh, I've seen a lot of people defending him and basically saying that NDT's critics lack critical thinking skills, are overly emotional, and too sensitive.
