The name will likely get out, but the notoriety will be lower and the impact on the rest of the environment (the spread) will be lower

The evidence is probably not there for the specific act of naming, but the general idea of social contagion is probably reasonable. Not sure how to best apply it. Media should avoid giving make mass murderers so much attention that they become glorified martyrs for the movement.
