To get an idea of how I felt, read this post I wrote the day after we had our dog euthanized.https://respectfulinsolence.com/2008/07/14/three-uneaten-ears-of-corn/ …

Totally agree. I can’t imagine losing our cats.

Grief is grief, irrespective of species. The loss of dogs has always hit me harder than the humans who have passed (so far). Relationships with them less complicated and mostly positive and an unending source of joy and comfort.

as if it occurred recently (1963!), observing my young dog tragically dying by hit and run has never left me. I share your sentiment. ty for posting this!

We lost our beloved dog Ike to lymphoma at 10.5 years. We were gutted. We still grieve. We adore our puppy Teddy, but I dread losing him already and our 11 year old grumpy cat. Pets are wonderful and devastating. I think that it’s a inverse relationship.

I miss my bunny. And also my spiders. And all the spiders I had... and the axolotls... my rainbow bridge will confuse people.

I am not a very emotionally expressive person, but when my dog was in too much pain from her cancer and had to be euthanized, I sobbed like a baby.

My wife was so devastated when our dog died that she never had another one. Simply couldn’t face the loss again.

That's so sad.
