I wonder how the plastic wrapping affects the apple microbiome? Is it anaerobic? Does that treatment cause a shift in the community?

We don't have any idea if the microbes were applied to the apples from a compost tea, which is an unnatural input.

We also don't know what was applied to the conventional apples, do we?

I never cite Science 2.0 or Hank Campbell. I might have linked to one of their things in the past before I gathered enough evidence of the poor scholarship there. Not to mention this crap:https://medium.com/@Keira_Havens/science-2-0-refuses-to-remove-nazi-eugenics-blog-posts-d0ef7e782806 …

I agree. Also, several ScienceBlogs alums requested that Hank remove their blogs. They got nowhere. It's not clear that Sb had the right to sell its limited right to republish our work, but we'd have to hire lawyers if we wanted to pursue it.

The solution is potentially simple: DMCA takedown notices with the host and search engines. I have seen more than one narcissist in this space claim they own other people's work in perpetuity without ever paying for it.

I've transferred all my posts to the new host, but not all the comments made it. Many of the comments from the 2006-2008 time period didn't transfer properly.
