Each time I’ve submitted an application to my uni’s ethic review board, they didn’t immediately grant me permission but posed critical questions & requested revisions. I guess my research has been politically suppressed by a corrupt review board that doesn’t share my politics! /s

It is not that I think they are a bad idea in general. It is just clear that they can do more damage than good the way they are currently set up an staffed at many institutions. I would trust that board at the University of Chicago, for example.
