1) The project involved human subjects. That’s all that’s required to make it the purview of an institutional ethics board. I don’t know what you mean by human subjects being some sort of target of research; but it’s not really a relevant distinction re need for IRB approval.

2) Researchers *regularly* carry out research that involves deception of participants & they do so *with IRB approval*. For studies with deception it is particularly important to stay above board regarding ethics approval & ethical process.

What then, if you sense corruption in the academic power hierarchy and bureaucracy? What if your study is going to expose the fraudulence of those people who tend to populate these boards?

If you sense corruption you investigate and/or expose and/or report it to the appropriate reporting structure. But you’re not going anywhere with your evidence-free claim of corruption of your local IRB board if you have *never engaged* with it.

Exactly. This was to claim evidence. It was not a Study on human subjects. That is a perverse twist to cover up the fact that Boghossian et al. exposed deeply disfunctional disciplines.

Ethics review boards aren't "progressive authorities". They're scientific institutions created to keep all scientists from doing unethical experiments.

You could, of course, look into why ethics review boards exist and why they require a legalistic framework. But that would be a bit too much like hard work, eh?

Ethical review boards actually would demand that you debrief HR departments after sending them false resumes. So. Yeah.
