This has to be the most self-important and pompous while simultaneously ignorant responses to criticisms of Peter Boghossian's study supposedly "exposing" what he calls "grievance studies." Dude, human subjects research protection regulations SHOULD be enforced vigorously. 1/https://twitter.com/chrisontwatter2/status/1153960022021300225 …

Perhaps the most depressing thing about the whole Boghossian affair is that it reveals how little people not involved directly in human subjects research, even academics, know about very basic ethical principles of using human subjects in research. 2/

Let's just put it this way. If you think that
@Portland_State's requirement that@peterboghossian undergo training in human subjects research regulations is "sending him to a reeducation camp," quite simply, you do not know what you are talking about. 3/1 reply 0 retweets 12 likesShow this thread -
All that happened to Boghossian is what would have happened to anyone who did a study involving human subjects without IRB approval. He has to undergo human subjects training and is banned from doing human subjects research or federally-sponsored research until he does. 4/

It was also stipulated that if Boghossian does any human subjects research again without having undergone human subjects research training and demonstrated his understanding of its principles, he could be fired. That's fair. 5/

ANY university would have done the same thing, because, as part of their contract to accept federal grant research funds, universities agree to abide by the Common Rule and all applicable federal research guidelines. Failure to do so risks their federal research grant funds. 6/

Basically, if Boghossian thinks the letter from
@Portland_State makes him look good, shows him to be a martyr for fighting lax standards in "grievance studies," he's sadly deluded. 7/ https://twitter.com/peterboghossian/status/1153676813341618183 …David Gorski, MD, PhD added,

In reality, what it shows is someone clueless about even the most basic principles of human subjects research who refuses to learn. 8/

Boghossian will succeed in convincing the rubes he's some sort of persecuted martyr whom left wing ideologues in "grievance studies" have "punished," but anyone who actually does human subjects research knows that he's just ignorant and unethical regarding human research. 9/9
