The kind of mindset that slogan represented was one of the reasons my family decided not to settle in the US at the end of the 60s.

Also same 'worldview' much discussed among the European postdocs I knew at the NIH 20 yrs ago, usually expressing why they planned to return home rather than settle.

I was in California during that time. I remember the “America: Love it or Leave it” bumper stickers were soon outnumbered by “America: Change it or Lose it.” Sure needs a change from the horror show in the White House now.
